TIL not only is Honda bringing the Monkey Bike to the US, but also an updated Super Cub.

I just discovered this as well, almost made a post about it too. The miniMOTO lineup for Honda is shaping up to be pretty rad.

i like all of those.... but i cant ride em for shit.... too much leg
knees get in the way of steering

I’m super excited. Might trade my Grom for a Monkey assuming that the lions share of my modifications transfer over.
Also I think that the Cub would be a totally badass starting point for a modern Trail 90 build. The first ones were just modified cubs after all.

The Supercub is the only non-scooter-y motorbike I would be interested in! Awesome things!
![]() 06/08/2018 at 15:58 |

I bet the Cub has way more generous ergos than the others!
![]() 06/08/2018 at 16:01 |

i could probably ride the cub if i scoot back on the seat... the other 2 i doubt

Such cool practical little things, I hope these sell like crazy so we continue to see this small CC renaissance continue.
*crosses fingers for a re-release of the Honda Aero*

The Grom is surprising, I’m 6' and have never felt cramped on it. It’s actually a little more roomy than my SV650 was!

Excited, plus that will keep CT parts around for while..
![]() 06/08/2018 at 16:07 |

The Monkey is basically a Grom with classic bike looks. TAKE ALL MY MONIES.
![]() 06/08/2018 at 16:07 |

I so badly want a modern CT on the backbone of one of those. I bet that’s in the pipeline at Honda seeing as a good condition Trail 90 sells for right around where the new Cub will be priced.

im 6.2 and mostly leg ... my knees get in the way of everything :p
(i mean my bandit was a comfy fit... but not by much)

I’m really considering trading the grom for one once they hit the showroom.

Shhh...don’t trade your Grom, sell it to meeeeeeeeeee!

The Trail 50 that I rode as a little kid had the same coloring as that one in the middle. So macho.
*Picture of similar one found on Google.

My god, they really did nail so many design elements.
![]() 06/08/2018 at 16:19 |

Of course by “trade”, I mean sell private party. I’m not foolish enough to go to a dealer!

The dark and light on the tank are reversed but otherwise they really did.

Ugh...great. This sucks. Whereas with smarts I’ve reached the point where I cannot buy anymore because of lack of space and/or rarity, I can have many more bikes and I’m not attached to any one brand.
I must have one of every Buell, a Grom, and a Monkey.
![]() 06/08/2018 at 16:29 |

I can say, from experience, that bikes are much Much MUCH more space efficient
![]() 06/08/2018 at 16:50 |

Ha! That’s what my garage looks like.
You’re very right- I can stash like 6 where I had 1 car before...
![]() 06/08/2018 at 17:04 |
|
At least!
Even more so when they are grom sized
![]() 06/08/2018 at 17:53 |

Well damn. It’s not like I wanted a mini bike before but now I need one

Is “transistorized” a word, or is this some kind of butchered translation?
Also, if I buy one, what do I say when normal people ask me why the hell I’m riding it instead of driving a car or even a normal motorcycle?
![]() 06/08/2018 at 19:51 |
|
Yeah, real word, kind of funny usage here.
The normal reaction I get to my Grom is “You’re a little big for that motorcycle”
My response is usually “you’re a little small for that *whatever they are driving/riding*”
![]() 06/08/2018 at 20:22 |

Nice, now money is my only excuse for not buying one. Then again, if I sold the Volvo....

I’m a ‘miniMOTO’ (to use their term) fanatic, and I didn’t think I’d live to see the day that Honda would bring the new Monkey to the USA, much less a new Cub.
![]() 06/09/2018 at 01:16 |

Im surprised we even got the Grom. But now they’ve carved out their own little niche in the market. I truly hope these sell just as well as the Grom did when it came here. I’m seriously considering grabbing a new cub just as a daily commuter!
![]() 06/09/2018 at 08:54 |

Now to wait and see how the public responds. I’m simultaneously excited and apprehensive. The talk on the minibike forums and the C70/SuperCub groups was that American Honda thought they understood the American market. Americans weren’t interested in small displacement commuter bikes. We liked Goldwings, cruisers, off-road, and sports bikes. There was hardly a conventional bike in the line-up. Therefore, us fanatics had to go elsewhere, either to Taiwanese or Chinese knock-offs, or to keep the originals running during Honda’s 40+ year import hiatus.

If they timed this right, just as we’re due for a pretty significant rise in fuel prices, I expect to see them fly off the showroom floors.
I hope these can capture the same “classless cool” that the Grom seems to have managed. I can bring mine everywhere, vintage meetups, sportbike meetups, scooter meetups. It fits in and is a hit everywhere.

Bought a 2016 Ruckus because I couldnt find a decent monkey on the market. And now they do THIS!!!!

I almost bought an old cub, was shopping for them pretty hard before I heard this announcement.
